The Art Of Eyelid Transformation
Dec 2024
As we age, or sometimes just due to genetics, the skin on our upper eyelids can start to hood over and creep
towards our lashes. A heavy upper eyelid can be caused by excess skin, a loose upper eyelid muscle, a low
sitting brow, or any combination of these. Fortunately, there are several surgical options to address these
concerns: upper eyelid blepharoplasty, upper eyelid ptosis repair, and brow lift. Each procedure can be tailored
to the individual's needs, helping to restore a more youthful, refreshed look.
"Patients complain that they can't put their makeup
on easily, or their eyelids feel heavy, or that they
feel like they can't see comfortably. Sometimes
they develop a subconscious habit of holding their
brows up to see more easily, which can lead to a
headache or fatigue at the end of the day."

UPPER EYELID BLEPHAROPL ASTY
Sometimes referred to as an upper eyelid lift, this procedure can be safely and easily performed in the office
under local anesthesia (a numbing injection). The excess skin is measured and removed, and if there is excess fat,
it can be reduced as well, giving the upper eyelid a more open appearance. Sutures are typically removed in five
days, with patients typically looking presentable at two weeks.
UPPER EYELID PTOSIS REPAIR
As we age, the muscle that holds the eyelid open can stretch and loosen, causing the eyelid to sit at the level of
the pupil rather than being lifted to the top of the iris. This can create a tired appearance. Ptosis repair can also
be performed in the office, under local anesthesia, at the same time as an upper blepharoplasty.
BROW LIFT
This procedure lifts the brows to address heaviness in the upper eyelids and enhances the overall appearance of
the face. A low brow position can contribute to some, all, or relatively none of the upper eyelid hooding. The best
way to determine this is by scheduling a consultation for a full evaluation. Brow lift surgery is performed under
general anesthesia, with small incisions hidden behind the hairline.
