All About The Eyes

Feel like you look tired? It's usually all about the lower eyelids

Dr. Sarhaddi, board certified plastic surgeon at Saint Louis Cosmetic Surgery

in Chesterfield, MO shares her insights into this very common complaint.

HERE ARE THE MOST COMMON REASONS AND HER TOP TIPS

LACK OF VOLUME UNDER THE EYES

As we get older, we lose volume in certain parts of our face, and I usually start to see the beginnings of

this in the mid-30s. In the undereye area, I start to see a demarcation separating the lower lid and the

cheek, which, when we are younger, is nicely blended and highlighted. Judicious filler or fat grafting can

blend this and add volume where it is likely missing.

UNDEREYE DARK CIRCLES

The lower eyelids have the thinnest skin i n our bodies. S o thin, i n fact, that t h e eyelid muscle, which is

pink, c a n show through a n d look like a dark undereye circle. In office treatments aimed a t thickening this

skin include a chemical peel f o r this a r e a twice a year, a microneedling series t o improve t h e texture, and

laser treatments aimed a t thickening t h e undereye skin. O f course, consistent a t h o m e skin care i s vital.

TRUE UNDEREYE "BAGS"

As we age, the thin layers of tissue in the undereye area that hold back the fat pads around our eyes

start to thin and loosen. This allows the fat pads that typically live behind our eyeball to pooch forward,

creating bags. Correction requires lower eyelid surgery to reduce the fat pads and tighten the lower lid.

This can also include tightening the skin of the lower lid and getting rid of the extra, crepey skin.
